An album dedicated to girls, rocking out and helicopter mishaps
Brisbane’s The Driving Conditions make radio-friendly commercial rock and they do it well enough to score label support from Sony. There’s nothing intellectually challenging here and tracks like STR8 2 Hell and My Bonnie are straight-up classic rock with choruses easy enough for any bogan to remember. Singer Woody is obviously an alumnus of Bon Scott University with a soulful yell that gets a good workout on most tracks. The band inevitably enter ballad country with the Bon Jovi-styling of Be Mine before they deliver their mission statement Rock N Roll with its pearl of wisdom, “Rock & roll / It’s just rock & roll”. Black Hawk Down is frenetic and buoyant but the warzone lyrics seem out of place on an album devoted to strippers, playing guitar and rooting the boss’s daughter.
