11 year old Canadian musician wins UK Songwriting Contest PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 06 June 2010
dZ is an 11 year-old multi-instrumentalist from Burlington, ON, Canada.
She started playing guitar when she was 4 years old and two years later, she had added
drums and bass. Composing her own music came naturally and by age 10, dZ
recorded her first single “Really High Hopes”, under the direction of Hamilton music
producer Carl Jennings.

Her EP, self-titled “dZ” is soon to be released. This debut CD will feature 5 tracks,
where she plays all the instruments heard on the songs. It took close to one year to
finish this initial project, due to the fact that dZ is a busy girl, dividing her music time with
tennis lessons, golf, skate boarding and just being a regular kid.

dZ received exciting news on Sunday, May 31st, that she was awarded the winning
entry in the acclaimed UK Songwriting Contest (www.songwritingcontest.co.uk)
competing in the Rock/Indie category with thousands of musicians from around the
world. Among the prizes, she will be in touch with one the most respected UK music
producers, Richard Niles for personal career mentoring and advice. Richard has worked
with the music industryʼs best including Paul McCartney, Ray Charles, James Brown
and Mariah Carey. dZ is absolutely amazed and excited to be given such a wonderful
opportunity!

A couple of my girlfriends and I would buy this mag in Cleveland,OH in the 60's. It made us super cool because we knew about the Brit bands way before anybody in our high school.
