The feathers will fly when Australia’s emerging and professional burlesque performers battle it out for the title of Miss Burlesque Australia across the country in July - August 2010! Burlesque performers around the country are hard at work perfecting their routines for Australia’s first world class competition in the genre, Miss Burlesque Australia. Out of 300 applicants, 60 finalists have been selected to compete at State Heats across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Hobart, all with the aim of being crowned Miss Burlesque in their state, and ultimately, Miss Burlesque Australia, plus a prize pool worth over $10,000 AUD including a return trip to Paris, cash, costumes and more. “A lot of these girls are thinking they can pop into Bra’s and Things, and do a dance routine and call it Burlesque. There is a colourful history to the genre, and many ingredients that make a good burlesque routine, and this competition has been designed to encourage performers to use the original moves, which are rarely seen in “burlesque” shows in Australia”. Said Jac Bowie Miss Burlesque Australia is the first competition in Australia to combine all feature elements of Burlesque performance and personality to compete for a major prize and international title. The competition is open to Burlesque performers of any level, both brand new, emerging and seasoned professional. A national competition that will see performers from all States compete for a prize pool worth over $10,000 AUD in money, prizes and sponsorship. The winner will be crowned Miss Burlesque Queensland and continue to compete for the crown of Miss Burlesque Australia. The competition will become international in 2011. Judges for QLD include Lola The Vamp, Kahlia Lea Litzow and Moulin Rouge (film) choreographer and dancer Rosetta Cook. When? Saturday night Where?
