Yolngu/English Aboriginal music with a very Islander vibe
This album was definitely a unique flavour and was not one I would usually find myself listening to. However, it proved to be rather enjoyable and incredibly interesting. Though I don’t understand the Yolngu language, this turned out to be a plus rather than a setback. I was able to focus on the music as a whole, rather than dwell on meanings. From what I gathered from the English lyrics, they have a passion for talking about nature and their land, and their deep connection to it. The music has an Aboriginal feel, with a Pacific Islander vibe. The DVD included in this pack contained two videos, which were interesting for someone who has not had much exposure to their culture before, I was definitely enthralled. This may be an acquired taste, but I would recommend giving Garrangali a chance.

There were around a dozen band members up on stage with a really big sound. Do yourself a favour and next time they come to town, make sure you catch them, you won't be disappointed! |
