The artists formally known as ‘Natural Ball’ will no longer be known as ‘Natural Ball’. After six years, they will be reborn and rebranded as ‘The Walters’, in tribute to two of the greatest harmonica bluesmen of the early 20th century, Walter Horton and Little Walter Jacobs. With plans to record and a couple of high profile gigs to be announced before the end of the year, the band decided it was time for a fresh start, with a more contemporary moniker. Don’t think they won’t still be playing their brand of high energy, 50’s style, Blues, R&B and Soul though. Get along to a gig and you’ll be sure to notice these boys’ passion and flair for the music they love is strong as ever. They’ll just be doing it Walter style… During the past 6 years, The Walters have been playing venues all over QLD and NSW from small local gigs to large national and international festivals, including The Australian National Blues Fest, Blues on Broadbeach, The Brisbane Blues Festival, The QLD Blues Festival and the Sunshine Coast Blues Festival, these festivals have given The Walters access to a wide and diverse spectrum of eagerly awaiting fans. 2007 proved to be a very successful year, culminating in the then known Natural Ball being awarded South East Queensland’s prestigious Blues Performer of the Year award. This Award was judged by a panel of respected blues musicians including Phil Emanuel, Kevin Borich and local blues radio announcers. It included a cash prize and The Walters being flown to Goulburn in NSW to take their place alongside the rest of the best blues musicians in the country at the Australian Blues Music Festival. And for the future, 2010 sees The Walters continue their Saturday night residency at West End’s Boundary Hotel, a performance at the Sunshine Coast Blues Festival on September 10, a new recording featuring some original tracks, and the aforementioned ‘high profile’ shows, with an interstate tour to follow in 2011 – details to be announced soon. http://www.myspace.com/thewaltersblues http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001531894406
