Our Kasey internationalises her sound
True, Kasey Chambers got international attention right from the early days with The Captain, but shes never sounded as Nashville-friendly as on her new album Little Bird. Among the numerous examples is the FM country rock glide of Someone Like Me, with a Dixie Chick-worthy chorus, while throughout the album Chambers blends her distinctive Melanie Safka-gone-bush vocals with warm multi-tracked harmonies. This is as radio-friendly as weve ever heard Chambers, while at the same time its distinctly and unmistakeably her. Nullarbor (The Biggest Backyard) showcases how the home country continues to be her main source of inspiration, but Little Bird sounds like what it is a solid, and worldly, country rock album. The rockabilly shuffle of Devil On Your Back, the smooth MOR title track, the bluegrass-inspired Georgia Brown and the hushed melancholic introspection of Somewhere will delight existing fans and may well attract a legion of new ones.
