I need a hug

It just goes to show that all you need is a clever hook and you can get anywhere in this biz.  For Sydney-turned-LA three-piece Sick Puppies, that clever hook came in the form of the Free Hugs video. Watched by millions on YouTube, the clip was responsible for thrusting its band into the mainstream, all the way to The Oprah Winfrey Show. While Free Hugs, accompanying the track All The Same and featured as a bonus video on this disc, gave the world warm fuzzies all over, the music itself is more of a cold prickly.  On the plus side, this is a massive sound; Shimon Moore’s heavy-duty vocals and chunky guitar, with Emma Anzai’s fat bass and the hard-hitting backbeat of Mark Goodwin’s drums deliver tight, anthemic hard rock that will be sure to sell well.  However if you prefer your rock a little more demanding, where riffs do more than outline chord progressions and lyrics don’t sound like they were written by a rhyming dictionary, then cast your ears elsewhere.  Still, you’ve gotta love that clip.
