Feast on a unique cinema experience in the heart of West End on Sunday 27th March when the West End Film Festival’s gala night returns to showcase some of Australia’s most innovative filmmakers. Now in its second year, the West End Film Festival is a national short film competition. This year’s program builds on the success of the 2010 inaugural festival with 23 films selected as finalists from the 150 entries received. “I’m really excited about this year’s festival and the program being so broad and entertaining - humorous at times, shocking, challenging and speckled with moments of beauty and humanity. There are also two new award categories - an Animation Award, and the Indigenous Australian Award that acknowledges the cinematic talents and storytelling of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders”, Festival Director Mike Witt said. “Last year, two out of three sessions sold out. We had such a positive response from the filmmakers, the audience and industry alike. Australia is full of talented filmmakers, all we have to do is get them to send in their films and hey presto we’re in for a great night”, said Mr Witt. The West End Film Festival’s gala night runs from 6pm until 10.30pm on Sunday 27th March at the Rumpus Cinema, located directly behind the Rumpus Room, corner of Boundary and Russell Streets, West End. This gala event features multiple screening sessions of the festival’s best films, entertainment and awards ceremony with cash prizes presented to the winning filmmakers over four categories. Tickets go on sale on Friday 25th February and can be purchased online at www.westendfilmfestival.com.au or from the Rumpus Room, corner of Boundary and Russell Streets, West End. The festival program is also available from the website.
