Great gift idea for small children
In four tracks, locals the Wonderfuls have managed to destroy what was left of my moral decency. The band is essentially two cousins who write a bizarre mixture of oddball pop songs not unlike that of Ariel Pink; allegedly, one member of the band has been in and out of psychiatric care and a cursory listen to the record does little to dispel such a claim. The theme of opener Piss Fist can indeed be accurately derived from its title, sounding like something Fred Schneider (of B52s fame) would pen, assuming mental derangement and preoccupation with fisting and urophilia. Hated Man, with its ambient wailing guitar ringing throughout, conjures images of fading middle-aged celebrities coming down from methamphetamine, whereas Young Hearts is a shambolic garage rock song with tuneless vocals. Whatever this record may be, many others often try – and usually fail – to be as creative as this. The apathy of Wonderfuls has resulted in a bizarrely wonderful and enjoyable pop record.
