Horror-themed rock? Okay then…

The front cover of this album declares “13 skull shakers straight from the garage”. And that’s not just a reference to the loud, rock sound. There’s a definite horror movie theme running all of the way through The Defectors’ fourth album, with such titles as Creepy Crawl, Dancing Ghouls, Resurrection, and I Want Blood. The songs are short, loud, and energetic. And they don’t take themselves seriously. At least, I really, really hope they don’t. Case in point: Fuck You ‘Cause You’re Looking Good. The chorus to that little gem is, quite simply, the title repeated twice over. It’s not much more than silly rock and can be entertaining. It can also, however, be somewhat grating. The vocals are so overconfident and boisterous that, after 14 songs, you’re almost left wondering how you got through it all. Bruised & Satisfied is kinda funny, kinda entertaining, and kinda, sorta, really exasperating.
