The words to describe the Arena tonight are ‘FUCKIN’ HOT!’ Like 40 sweaty degrees hot... but it’s awesome to see people out early for openers Unpaid Debt. Anyone who covers a Billy Bragg song is cool with me. Up next are local boys Bad Day Down, and I must say they do an awesome job. Just song after song of good, fast punk rock. I hear a couple people say “These fucking guys sound like Propagandhi”…which is a pretty good compliment if you ask me. They handle the big Arena stage with the greatest of ease. It has actually been 10 years since I have seen NOFX live, and they are just as good today if not better. Linoleum, The Cause, and Stickin’ In My Eye get the huge crowd smiling from ear to ear. Every song is someone’s favourite, and that’s the awesome thing about this band. Playing The Decline in its entirety was definitely a highlight – hell, any band who plays an 18-minute song and has people singing and dancing the whole time is onto something good. Of course, NOFX have so many it’s inevitable a few classics don’t get played. Not that people seem to mind, as there’s always Fat Mike’s humour to keep everyone entertained. After the final song is played (The Brews), Fat Mike jokes, “See you in five more years”… Let’s hope so! PAUL VOGE
