More big riffs from WA
In The City Tonight is the second EP from Western Australian rock group, Thursdays Page, an affable bunch of dudes who don’t believe in possessive apostrophes, their unusual band name leaving at least one reviewer slightly confused. Still, who has time for grammar when there is rock to be had? Starting out with the awkward sounding Octagon (Work it Out), this EP does take its time to hit stride, feeling infinitely more confident by the time the straight forward Sinking Anchor comes around. Vocalist Jake Hoskins often reminds me of a mid-‘90s Mike Patton, and bass heavy songs like Shivering recall that heritage of alternative metal, revolving around heavy guitar riffs and large chunky bass lines. Mystic Road is probably the best song here; Hoskins’ voice nicely floating above the gentle guitar melody. And while I don’t think In the City Tonight is the best thing since sliced bread, Thursdays Page prove here that they have some saving graces.
