Griffith University BA Showcase
Monday, 26 September 2011
3rd year Griffith University Bachelor of Arts students prepare to show their expertise in Social Enterprise, in a showcase open to the public, on Friday 14th October.
The showcase will begin early afternoon, and will be held at Griffith University's Nathan Campus.
Over the past three years the students have studied the principles of Social Enterprise, a system of economy that encourages social justice and corporate responsibility.
Culminating their studies over three years, the students have prepared a series of interactive projects to stimulate understanding for this new field of research.
Scott Collins, a graduating student, is presenting a video documentary on Globalisation at the showcase. The film was produced while on student exchange at Shenzhen University, China.
“Early next year I will graduate. Social Enterprise, in combination with my major in Chinese Language, has given me a world of opportunity”, Scott said.
Demand for skills in Social Enterprise are rapidly increasing. Griffith University's Humanities faculty has taken a proactive approach, incorporating studies in Social Enterprise in the Bachelor of Arts, beginning in first year and continuing to industry placements and projects in third year.
Associate Professor Jock Macleod is the Head of School and the originator of the program, and believes Social enterprise is a unique program for Griffith University's Bachelor of Arts, both in Australia and internationally.
"The great value of the Social Enterprise program is that it enables students from across all the disciplines traditionally taught in a Bachelor of Arts degree to engage in an appropriate work placement related to their studies, while at the same time contributing to the benefit of society," Associate Professor Jock Macleod said.
Dr Susanna Chamberlain is the convenor of the Social Enterprise Signature Experience, offered within the Bachelor of Arts degree at Griffith University. Dr Chamberlain has worked tirelessly to drive the Arts degree into a new era where Bachelor of Arts students can assist business to seek profitable solutions to social problems.
