From Basements & Bedrooms of the
Kimberley emerges:
The Anton Franc EP
Anton Franc are set to release their debut self-titled EP, on November 7th 2011. Featuring two WAM Song of the Year nominated tunes, the EP was spawned alongside the mudflats of Derby, in the far north-west of WA's Kimberley region.
Self-recorded in bedrooms and basements of Broome, Derby and Perth, the EP explores themes of isolation and loneliness, although with tongue frequently hovering around cheek.
While the Anton Franc sound frequently features unexpected instrumentation, arrangement and electronic aspects, the pair hold traditional folk and pop songwriting as the cornerstone of their writing process.
"When we met, both Jamie and I were experimenting with different sounds - be it tiny Andean string instruments, or wave oscillators & envelope filters. We both though, quickly recognised a mutual love for 'the song' and set about trying to marry our different approaches," Joshua Bowyer, one half of the moderately handsome duo, recounts.
The first single to be lifted from the record, Letting Go, was birthed following a failed barramundi fishing adventure in the Kimberley.
Letting Go has recently found a home on German television as the sound behind R+V's new campaign & was nominated as a finalist in the 2010 WAM Song of the Year Contest. 2011 has seen another nomination, with Memo - the cathartic EP closer - a finalist in the "Love" category.
Their live show, with a rotating complement of guest musicians, showcases the pair's ability to integrate focused songwriting with electronic colours and eclectic instrumentation. This show will be revealed to the Australian public in December 2011.
Anton Franc's debut, self titled EP will be released via Bandcamp & iTunes on November 7th, with pre-sales available via Anton Franc's Bandcamp page (www.antonfranc.bandcamp.com) from October 17th.
