The Valley Jazz Festivalwww.valleyjazzfestival.com returns to the streets of Fortitude Valley Brisbane bigger and better than ever. The event will kick off on Tuesday 24th April and run through to Sunday 29th with an exciting and eclectic mix of some of the best jazz musicians has to offer. The official program launch was held at the Judith Wright Centre For Contemporary Arts on Monday the 12 March unveiling an exhilarating program, with more venues, more bands, more gigs and more musicians. The lineup of interstate and, for the first time, international talent is truly exceptional and together with our homegrown jazz groups will make the 2007 Valley Jazz Festival the most significant Jazz event in Queensland . Featuring 60 acts, 216 musicians and 15 venues it's a highlight of 's musical calendar for 2007 With principal sponsors the Queensland Government and the Brisbane City Council this multi-venue event remains Brisbane's only major festival that's critically focused on jazz as an art form, by showcasing the most compelling and innovative accomplishments in jazz and creative improvised music. The Valley Jazz Festival 2007 will headline the internationally acclaimed Vince Jones Band and the Tinkler-Rex-Grabowsky-Edie Quartet, showcasing the forefront of contemporary Australian Jazz at the Judith Wright Centre for Contemporary Arts. The grand finale at the Zoo will feature our special guest from New York , George ColemanJr and his band The Rivington Project. This will all be supported by an impressive program of cutting-edge, Australian Jazz acts including, The Band of 5 Names, Jim Kelly’s Return of Crossfire, The James Sherlock Quartet,Kristin Berardi (winner of the Jazz Voice Competition at the 2006 Montreux Jazz Festival), Misinterprotato, New Blood, Abbreviations Orchestra, and Lana Martino Smith.
The Valley Jazz Festival 2007 will also present a live music stage at the Valley Markets on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th of the Festival. Entertaining market go-ers with a jazz feast including, David Bentley, Matt Keegan Trio, The Fantastic Terrific Munkle, Melissa Western, and the modern 18 piece jazz ensemble Brisbane Contemporary Jazz Orchestra.
The Valley Jazz Festival 2007 will continue to support our vibrant Jazz communities via Festival Workshops in partnership with the Brisbane jazz Club including hosting theScott Tinkler workshop and the George Coleman Jr’s workshop. We are also facilitating a Vocalist Award competition, presentedin association with Brisbane Radio ABC612.
