Ric’s - Sun March 25 Rics is in an extremo kicked-back mood this slightly drizzly Sunday afternoon as Fi Claus, one half of ex-Brisbane institution Gorgeous, floats onto stage with her new band Booty in tow. Backed by The Boat People's James O'Brien and the ever-impressive Andy Sylvio from Pete Murray's Stonemasons, Claus sails into some absolute pop gems and delivers them with the experience we might come to expect from a seasoned pop-chanteuse such as herself. One thing abundantly clear is that the songwriting on display is captivating to the point of perfection. The lyrical twists and turns take on new forms when Claus hits her unmistakably beautiful falsetto, and being backed up by such a tight rhythm section doesn't hurt one bit. Stand out tracks Perfect Day and Come Home are wonderfully performed, but it's the truly beautiful Age Old Song that steals the whole set and leaves the Rics crowd in awe of the singer (and poet) on stage. Booty kick on with the first single off their upcoming album Please Please. It's a pop heavy affair with an Angie Hart-esque twist and will no doubt be gracing radio land on its upcoming release. If these songs are anything to go by, Booty's upcoming record will be several slices of pop gold. KURT SANDERS
