Catchy rock with ups and downs

Ryan Allen, the singer of Thunderbirds Are Now! has this indescribable sound to his voice. It’s kind of nasal and whiny, and if used to front an entirely different band, say an early-adolescent pop-punk type of band, it could be agony on the ears. But Allen chose to front a rock group. Better move. This album is full of catchy, although not entirely new, riffs and imaginative lyrics. There’s some loud yelling, such as on (The Making of…) Make History. Featured on many of the tracks, for example on We Win (Ha Ha) and Sound Issues/Smart Ideas, are really cool keyboards, courtesy of Scott Allen. They add an unusual touch to the release, bringing it from almost mediocre (although still catchy) rock to… well, mediocre rock with really cool keyboards. Make History will have a definite fan base. It’s catchy and fast paced with touches of inventiveness. But those damn vocals!!
