BEC - Sunday April 22

17-year-old self-proclaimed prince of R&B and pop, Chris Brown strides on stage with the confidence and swagger of a seasoned pro. Brown along with four male dancers works the stage from word go, bringing his radio singles and videos to life.  After the first couple of tracks it’s clear it’s all about the choreography tonight, Brown backed by a DJ, relying – as most R&B acts – heavily on  backing tracks.  He’s entertaining enough though, the adoring squeals of female fans as he grinds and thrusts across stage testament to the fact. Mid-set Brown pays tribute to his inspiration, Michael Jackson engaging in a medley of Jackson hits including Rock With You and Billie Jean, complete with Jackson’s signature dance moves, Fedora hat, sequinned white glove, and red and black Thriller jacket.

Billed as ‘The Beyonce Experience’ Miss B’s show is nothing short of spectacular and jaw-dropping tonight.  Emerging from a sea of smoke, Beyonce looks every bit the superstar clad in a formfitting floor-length silver sequinned dress, a waterfall of pyrotechnics cascading from stage right. The curtain behind her shifts to reveal a stage set of stairs – the base for her 10-piece all-female band Suga Mama and trio of backup singers – and Beyonce begins with Crazy In Love. As the show unfolds you get a sense of how refreshing it is to see, hear and feel the presence of an all-female energy on stage. Amid a blur of impressive costume changes, bangin’ live beats and muscular rhythms, Freakum Dress, Green Light, Upgrade U are all accounted for. Beyonce pays tribute to her Destiny’s Child days performing snippets of hits like Say My Name, Bills, Bills Bills, Bootylicious, Jumpin’ and Survivor.  Other Beyonce works Naughty Girl, Beautiful Liar, Bonnie & Clyde and Me, Myself & I make appearances to an awestruck crowd. Déjà vu and latest hit, Irreplaceable tie everything up nicely. This is one experience that won’t be forgotten by the overjoyed fans in a hurry.
