Local acoustic popsters with a good deal of potential If you like pop hooks, harmonies and listening to love songs, Weep Now Animals is the EP for you. Local four-piece The Ehlers play concise acoustic pop, heavy with a range of different influences. The soulful Watered Down has strong jazz flavourings, though remains within the band’s pop strengths. The vocals from pianist Kane Mazlin are clear and polished, though perhaps somewhat reserved – so when he tries to scat or when his voice almost soars, it results in mild pangs of disappointment. Weep Now Animals contains a broad scope of pop elements that – while not original – are well presented and easy on the ear. The Ehlers aren’t going to blow your mind just yet, but I’d keep an ear or two open in the future. The boys are currently playing around Brisbane, so catch one of their shows and decide for yourself.
