A major shake-up in a national online band poll has left Brisbane four-piece The Gallant sweating on an exciting breakthrough opportunity. Brisbane’s highest rating band in the current Sony-sponsored UncharTED competition (www.uncharted.com.au), The Gallant are in Sydney this weekend supporting fellow Brisbane alt-rockers Intercooler. But they’re hoping their loyal local fans will continue to take up the challenge of securing them a place in the semi-finals – they’re sitting fourth in a field of almost 600 bands, with the top three going through to the semis. “We’d pretty much given up when several interstate bands got a massive amount of votes in pretty quick time and got right away from us on the leaderboard,’’ The Gallant’s drummer Sam Thomson said. “But the organisers apparently did a major audit this week to check on any vote rorting and a couple of those bands have simply disappeared out of sight while we’ve jumped from sixth to fourth. “So with daily voting running through till June 30 we think we’ve got a real shot at making the semis if our hardcore supporters, and others who get behind us now, can go the distance.’’ UncharTED contenders are vying for a major prize which includes a Sony BMG/Red Label record deal and a spot on the national Big Day Out tour.
