On Thursday the 28^th of June, the Brisbane Jazz Club will unveil its first ever compilation CD, High Tide at the Brisbane Jazz Club, featuring 13 of Brisbane's most prominent jazz acts (72 musicians total!) recorded live at the club.

Marking a special first in the Club’s rich 35-year history, High Tide represents much more than just the Club's first venture into the realm of recorded music. The music on the CD is a contemporary snapshot of the jazz scene in Brisbane today and provides an enchanting soundtrack to the story of the Club's history provided in the liner notes. The CD package is a special piece of the Brisbane Jazz Club that people can own, read, listen to and cherish for many years to come.

The CD features a diverse cross-section of jazz styles and showcases world-class live performances from local and national jazz performers. The line-up reads like an all-star concert billing, featuring the hot and pulsing sounds of the Caxton Street Jazz Band, Braben Jenner Hot Five, Mal Jennings Jazz Giants and the Brisbane Big Band; the cool, easy swing of Jazz Australis, Johnny Nicol, Kristina Kelman Quintet and Mystery Pacific; the dark beauty of ballads by the Graeme Norris Quintet and Sandie White and the infectious grooves of the Rohan Somasekaran Quintet, Finders Keepers and the Clare Hansson Quartet.

The amazement that you’ll experience when listening to this incredible melting pot of musical goodness may well cause your heart to soar, proud in the knowledge that our city has nurtured and now supports such a healthy scene of inspiring jazz artists. Let this feeling wash over you like the tide, because when it subsides, you’re going to be pulled out of your listening chair by the strong current drawing you ever-nearer to the realisation that amazing music like this happens throughout Brisbane all the time! Pack an inflatable life-jacket, because before you know it you may well find yourself sucked out into the Brisbane jazz waters!

Drag yourself ashore and revel with us in the enchanting night time performances, revive yourself at one of our famous gypsy jazz breakfasts, learn to dance, enrol your kids to learn to play, join in on a jam session, go home, wring yourself out and come back and do it all again next weekend!

When you pick up High Tide, you hold in your hands a doorway into the jazz heart of this city. Fortunately, the number of venues around town who promote the art of performing live jazz music is on the slow but healthy rise.
