(Polyannaism / MGM) Contemporary favourites like reggae and roots. About to celebrate their five-year anniversary, Rastawookie recently launched their new album at a sold-out show in Sydney. The band's rootsy reggae sound is infused with South American instrumentals. On Perfectly Ordinary, the chilled-out tunes are spiced with everything from Andean flutes to sax and turntables, making for an album that is exotic but familiar and safe all the same. Their album showcases genres you might find at the Blues ‘n Roots or Woodford Folk Festivals. Drum & bass, dub, funk, roots, R&B, salsa and rap all make an appearance on the album, with singer Janny Casanova's sweet voice topping it all off. Despite its diversity, the album sounds a lot like other popular reggae on the scene at the moment. That said, sell-out gigs are a sure sign that these dudes are on their way up. ILI TULLOCH
