Melbourne four-piece Six Hours spend half their set hidden by an overeager smoke machine and I wonder why these relatively ordinary radio-ready rockers are supporting the grandfather of shock. They emerge from the smoke to sing about suicide and do a solid cover of Children Of The Revolution and it all makes sense. Alice Cooper enters and age doesn’t appear to have slowed him down; he’s as much the showman as ever. To enhance the irony when he sings I’m Eighteen he leans on a prop crutch. Lost In America’s “I can’t get a job cause I ain’t got a car / so I’m looking for a girl with a job and a car” sounds as perfectly teenage as ever. The traditional stunt of evading his own execution is a hanging rather than a guillotining, but it’s still an impressive piece of trickery and the roar when he returns for School’s Out is deafening. He ends with Elected, complete with an American flag in his hat, declaring himself President of Australia for the finale. Given how conservative his politics are – creepiest thing about him – it’s a good thing he sticks to the surrealist vaudeville he excels at. JODY MACGREGOR

A fun vaudeville act - the highlight being "Steven" from the "Welcome to my Nightmare" album. I agree with Lizzy - what was up with the etha crew in the side seating? |

ALICE does not interact with his crowd for a reason so figure it out before blaming the crowd for you having to stand up sucker.. |
