Image5 Minutes With… wise-cracking local punk-metal-rock trio THE QUICKENING

It has come to Rave’s attention that your bassist Jim is leaving the bright lights of Briz Vegas for a year overseas, what are the rest of the band’s plans for the hiatus?

Besides the usual sitting around and jerking-off to a great deal of nothing, Fazz (guitar/vox) has plans of taking his new folk band, Spirit Panther, to his forest friends of Northern NSW.  Until then, he will contemplate his yin and yang flag in the window and question whether it will ever bring him peace on his meridian lines, or at least another can of baked beans.  Dave (drums)... no one really knows what he does, besides eating weights. Jim will, however, only be away for four months, returning mid-December.

You three met in high school. How do you think Jim’s abandoning the band is going to affect your relationships?

Being seasoned veterans of taking time off, our love for one another can only blossom into something even more beautiful on Jim’s return, as happened with both Fazz and Dave in their previous adventures.

Your last show of 2007 is slated for early next month. How do you suggest fans and groupies cope without you?

Fans should maintain steady motor control, continue to oscillate and blow in the faces of groupies.

We understand the show is also Jim’s official farewell soiree, and that he has a vomiting problem. Is there anything else fans should know in terms of sending Jim off?

Well, he is easily impressed with any rendition of the Brokeback Mountain song, his hair is easily styled without the use of product and he happily endorses the use of Vileda buckets for a good chunder.

What are your plans for Jim’s return?

December, this year will see Jim’s return, and the timely demise of Spirit Panther.  Plans are in place to record a new album to be released early next year, which will then be thoroughly toured down the east coast. Needless to say however, it will be comprised of epic euro-synth, gospel choirs, and marimbas; Guaranteed to receive smiles from the punters – smiles that would make a Cheshire cat look like it’s suffering from manic depression. But if we can’t be bothered going to that effort, we’ll probably just get mighty drunk.

The Quickening play their last show for 2007 on Saturday August 4 at Club Phoenix, slongside KNAW, Dick Nasty, and The Sips. myspace.com/thequickeningonline

Is good album artwork/packaging a factor in you deciding whether to buy a CD or just a download?
