Nice, but you’ve heard it before The Warsaw Flowers are a quartet based in Adelaide who take on simple, sweet acoustic indie. This four-track demo is an indication of some solid songwriting but with songs that unfortunately sound just like all the other generic acoustic indie tracks out there. The songs are pleasant and enjoyable, but you’ll find yourself forgetting the band’s name halfway through because it’s so indistinguishable from what you’ve heard before. Internationalism2you is grounded in acoustic guitar and James Stewart’s good but familiar vocals, while The Runner channels Paul Dempsey. The melodies are simple but effective and it creates a cocoon-like atmosphere that’s comfortable but not exciting. The formula here is emotionally charged balladry and tried-but-true chord progressions, and really this is the case with all the tracks. These guys do have talent and potential, and hopefully will find a way to break out of the box before they become just another indie band. MICHAEL PINCOTT
