ImageMelbourne independent pop and dance trio SLINKEE MINX are coming to Brisbane next week! Are you ready? SIMON TOPPER helps you be more so.

By now you will all know that independent pop and dance trio Slinkee Minx are coming up from Melbourne next week. That’s just common sense. But what do you do if you happen to encounter of one of the Minxes? How will you address the Minx? Do you know which Minx is which? Should you admit that your favourite Slinkee Minx song is a cover? For further important information about Slinkee Minx, read on, then read again, memorise, highlight the important facts, get someone to test you, get a good night’s sleep, and keep this article on you at all times for the next week, lest you meet the real Slinkee Minx as they bring a giant Wickham-shaped party to Brisbane.

NAMES OF MINXES: Annmarie Failla (brunette), Michelle Palmer (thin) & Belinda Tartaglia (sexily dressed)

GENESIS OF THE MINX: Belinda says: “We’ve been friends for a really long time, and we’ve been a group for about seven years now. We’ve all got a background in singing, dancing and modelling. We all had similar interests in dancing and writing songs, and we thought we’re all friends, so why don’t we start a dance act, and that’s how Slinkee Minx was born. We haven’t looked back since.”

SKILLZ: Singing, Dancing, Modelling, Writing songs, Being friends, Looking back (NO LONGER APPLICABLE)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THEIR ALBUM, ELECTRIC DREAMS: Michelle says: “It’s been a couple of years in the making. We didn’t want to rush it, but also because we self-funded a lot of it, it’s been quite a timely process. We ended up demoing about 40 different tracks and picking 12. We’re very excited about it.”

HOW MANY COVERS DO THEY DO? Subquestion: Are there any funny stories about any of them? Annmarie purrs: “There are only three covers on the album. We’ve released two, Summer Rain (Belinda Carlisle) and Careless Whisper (Wham!). Send Me An Angel (Real Life) was just a real favourite of ours, so we thought ‘Why not?’”

Michelle continues: “Actually, funny story, we told them we wanted to do it, and we met our producer Danny Simcic, and he said ‘Oh yeah, funny about that, because I just happen to be one of the original members of Real Life’ and we just went ‘What?’”

GIRL GROUP CLICHES

LIP-SYNCING: All emphatically refute: “No!”

Belinda scowls: “We all said when we decided to form this group that we would absolutely never mime or lipsync, because we knew that being an all-female group that we would immediately be pigeonholed, so there is absolutely no way.”

HAVING MASSIVE BITCHFIGHTS AND GETTING A REPLACEMENT MINX IN: Belinda giggles: “That won’t happen. If Slinkee Minx ever was to have that happen, we would just disband all together. I know it’s probably going to sound cheesy, but we really do have that great bond between us because we were friends first and we are friends now. I don’t think we would ever want to venture down that path.”

Slinkee Minx will play the Wickham Hotel on August 14. The album Electric Dreams is out now through Central Station.

Have the ablum, it's FANTASTIC. It's great to see talented Aussie girls that aren't being shoved down our throats by the likes of OZ Idol or Sony BMG. I hope the album does well, you girls deserve it.

I agree with John, these girls are amazing and so talented and good on them for funding their own album. I've had the good fortune of meeting the girls at one of their shows recently and they are the most genuine, down-to-earth, lovely (not to mention gorgeous!!) girls you'll ever meet! Their album is incredible, I haven't stopped playing it since I bought it :)
