MICK WILSON – Blame Train PDF Print E-mail

(Independent)

It’s not the train’s fault, Mick

He’ll be big in Tamworth, for sure. Mick Wilson’s debut album Blame Train is a collection of fairly poor rock songs that are on about Shannon Noll’s level of competency, which is to say, low. It’s not that the songs are unlistenable, just the sort of songs you would simply choose not to listen to. Wilson’s vocals are wince-worthy but passable and the production is crisp enough to ensure the guitars get their point across. But it’s all downhill from there. Each song follows a painfully generic path, the lyrics taking the form of basic poetry where the last word of each line rhymes, making it fairly obvious that Mick Wilson is not a songwriter. Nothing Song has a poppy charm and the title track has an effective brit-pop feel to it, but the record also features an utterly atrocious cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Sweet Home Alabama. Maybe he should’ve covered Free Bird instead.

Interesting to note that Mick Made it into the final 10 (then No. 4 ranking) of the Australian Song Writers Awards sponsored by APRA, with a song from Blame Train. Perhaps your \'critique\' is not so credible when this achievement is considered, or do you see yourself \'apart\' APRA\'s credibility??

This review is a contrast to other reviews of this album. It disappoints me with your lack of appreciation but then again to be compared to Shannon Noll and his incompetency is a complement.I was also fortunate to meet this artist at the ASWA the night of his 4th placing, maybe Pincott has listened to a different album as the picture shown is not related to the Blame Train album. Look out for the next Shannon Noll.Great work Mick Wilson

Fortunately your back handed, snide comments were lost on me. How could this review be seriously considered when the album cover displayed is not Blame Train? For my mind the only thing \"utterly atrocious\" about Mick Wilson\'s album is your \"review\". Your support for up and coming Australian talent is questionable at best and your narrow minded view of Tamworth, Shannon Noll has me shaking my head. Fortunately the ASWA got it right..the name, the cover and the accolade.

I'm sorry Michael Pincott but i think your review may be a little wrong or you may be the only person that thinks it...as did he not come 4th in the ASWA ? don't you think that is saying something hmmm
when you write a song i will be glad to criticise your lyrics
I happen to love all of Mick Wilsons songs and i think the lyrics are fantastic
