(Independent) In Soviet Russia, drones dream of you This record is comprised of one guitarist and one drummer putting together instrumental rock songs. Unfortunately, some songs don’t sound like they’re part of an instrumental record, but rather that they fired their vocalist and recorded an album anyway. The songs simply occupy an unfortunate space where the tracks are too straightforward and disciplined to be carried on the strengths of the arrangement, and at the same time I keep imagining that Thurston Moore or J Mascis will start mumbling some lyrics over the top, but they never do. The interplay between drums and guitar sits comfortably between post-punk and fuzz-rock. Only in the track Give Me Life do TLGRR seem to flex their muscle, expanding and spreading out much more healthily into a ten minute guitar journey, while Into The Storm Drains The Storm smells mightily like potential. This record just missed the mark, but there is some talent there. MICHAEL PINCOTT
