ICON CREATIVE SUMMIT Friday 30th November 7PM TIL LATE & 1st December 2007 12PM TIL LATE ROMA STREET PARKLANDS AMPHITHEATRE FREE Icon Creative Summit is pleased to present their second annual FREE multi-arts festival showcasing emerging artists in Music, Fashion, Short film and Dance. This year’s event will be set against the scenic backdrop of Roma Street Parklands once again and crowds will have their senses indulged by the kaleidoscope of creativity on stage, as well as street performers and delectable food stalls, kids’ corner and craft stalls throughout the parklands. There is something for everyone at Icon Creative Summit, this year’s festival shines the light on the diversity of creativity in Brisbane and there are no set genres on any of the creative platforms - it’s all about freedom of creative expression. Musicians showcased come from a wide range of genre’s including acoustic soul, rock, punk, hip hop, funk, electro pop, reggae and more. Two music headliners this year include Mark Lowndes a local Brisbane acoustic soloist tearing up the local gig circuit. Mark is a finalist in this year’s Fretfest Find of the Year, and winner of last years Acoustic in The Park. Currently working on his debut EP, Mark is sure to shake up the Australian music industry in the near future. Our other headliners, Spacifix is a group of eight New Zealanders writing and performing their own original music that is fresh, full of colour, energy and theatre. These young entertainers have a stage presence larger than their hairstyles. They defy comparison and their commitment and dedication to their music have earned them 1st place in the Smoke Free Pacifica Beats Rock Quest, a television series called Henderson to Holllywood which recently took out ‘Best Reality Television Series’ at AirNZ Screen Awards and have the ear of major record labels in the USA. They will be headlining this year at Icon Creative Summit and performing later in the year at Woodford Folk Festival. Fashion designers sourced for this year’s event have been selected for their ability to embrace new idea’s and explore new directions in fashion and will be showcased with models using a platform of performance rather than the predictable strut down the catwalk. Dance is another platform that will have the crowd jumping out of their seats; groups sourced this year include Polytoxic, Blaze, Trak 1 (winner of the NZ hip-hop awards ’07), Funky Munkies and Zenith. Dance genres include hip hop, contemporary and just to mix it up, a fusion of classical too. Short film will be making its debut at this year’s event and talented emerging film makers have been sourced from across Australia and New Zealand. The event was created to display the talent that is alive and thriving in Brisbane and also to give artists who push the boundaries on their creativity, a platform. The event has attracted artists from New Zealand and across Australia.
