They record where the rest of us get drunk. Local country and blues duo Texas Tea recorded this release live at Ric’s Bar, bar tracks Whiskey and Wine (x 2) and One Silver Dollar which were given life elsewhere. Vocalist Kate Jacobson tends to sing in an American accent, and comparisons are easily drawn to many famous country and blues songstresses. When Benjamin Dougherty picks up that dobro guitar you could swear he was playing overlooking a field of corn in old overalls after a hard day on the farm. His guitar work on the Gillian Welch cover is outstanding. This EP is mostly covers, but title original track Whiskey And Wine is a winner with a second version included that isn’t much different from the first. Their covers might outweigh their originality here, but folk music was always about mastering your predecessors before anything else, and the surprising simplicity with which Texas Tea achieves this gives them real credibility.
