…and love this record... Perth has gyrated its musical hips, given a big heave-ho and pushed another good band into the world. Well done. A lot of artists proclaim to paint over a wide canvas of genres, but if Red Jezebel said that to me I would believe them. The thirteen tracks here do in fact hold great variety and a wide range of ideas, instead of just the promise to do so. Hollywood is an effective opening with spots of vocal reverb and acoustic strums clashing with teased guitar cascades that culminate in a nice segue to Kicking Deadly Sins. Howl At The Moon/A Victim Of Speeding Cars allows them to flex their guitar pedal muscles, creating some pretty excellent atmospherics that switch into an emotional sing-along finale. Excellent guitar work with strong songwriting ensures that this record succeeds. It’s not particularly what they do, but how they do it, that makes this one worth going back to. MICHAEL PINCOTT
