The Family - Thu Nov 29 How much can you expect from the Family on a school night? Well quite a bit when two international acts are playing live. The turnout is sizeable for a Thursday, with punters down in the basement taking up most of the available dancefloor real estate. Booka Shade, electronic drums at the ready, provides the audience with the beautifully warm tech house they’re renowned for. Pumping out kicks like Night Falls, In White Rooms and Mandarine Girl, it’s a tight, smooth performance. Having never seen them before, it’s quite impressive. In contrast, Trentemöller starts slowly for a set that won’t last much over an hour. When it does eventually change gears, the music weaves almost too fast for the punters to keep up, but I can hear Moan getting a play. Though the Trentemöller live experience doesn’t quite have the punch of Booka Shade, it’s still enjoyable. Giving their version of Seven Nation Army a dirty twist, heavily-distorted bass guitar caps the set. With the supporting DJs keeping a good pace throughout the night, the bridging set is executed brilliantly by Andun, while Scott Walker and Mag00 play late into the night, providing a perfect closer for the many punters still dancing into the wee hours.
