Beards: the latest fashion accessory

Gather to the chapel is the second single of ‘07 from Liam Finn, the son of well-known and respected musician, Neil Finn. Quietly sung and acute in message, the song stands a fair distance from Liam’s work in indie-pop group Betchadupa. In fact Gather To The Chapel has no dirty distortion, and rather implements Beatles--esque harmonies laden over basic songwriting. In true solo fashion, Liam’s hesitant voice is caught amongst a swelling of strings that truly unfold near the climax of the song. The B-side Lullaby is effectively haunting with layered vocals hummed and sung under the re-emergence of the ever-atmospheric string section. Strangely, the release is nicely packed in a cardboard case with a separate DVD. Unfortunately the DVD is simply included to obviously fill space, featuring only two video clips from Liam Finn. Luckily enough, the starkly dressed single is fairly decent.
