(Liberation Music) Beards: the latest fashion accessory Gather to the chapel is the second single of ‘07 from Liam Finn, the son of well-known and respected musician, Neil Finn. Quietly sung and acute in message, the song stands a fair distance from Liam’s work in indie-pop group Betchadupa. In fact Gather To The Chapel has no dirty distortion, and rather implements Beatles--esque harmonies laden over basic songwriting. In true solo fashion, Liam’s hesitant voice is caught amongst a swelling of strings that truly unfold near the climax of the song. The B-side Lullaby is effectively haunting with layered vocals hummed and sung under the re-emergence of the ever-atmospheric string section. Strangely, the release is nicely packed in a cardboard case with a separate DVD. Unfortunately the DVD is simply included to obviously fill space, featuring only two video clips from Liam Finn. Luckily enough, the starkly dressed single is fairly decent. DAVID FANNON
