Ghostcore haunts the streets of Brisbane... Brisbane based duet Dizzygothica have released their debut EP Holding Pattern. Defined as ghostcore, the sound is an un-orthodox mix of darkwave, post industrial and trip hop. It’s a blend industrial electronica with beautiful emotive vocals and darkwave stylings. Anthony Smith’s heavy electro atmosphere sits perfectly with Heidi Millington’s siren-like vocals. The recording is both intriguing and unique, with subtle reminders of Aphex Twin, Sigur Ros and Bjork. Each track deals with life issues including messy break-ups, mental illness, isolation and just plain old anger. The album is quite a rollercoaster ride: twisting and turning as you’re bombarded with hard electro loops and soft emotive vocals. With their no limits approach to delicate situations, Dizzygothica are edgy and unafraid of trying something different. JONATHON HOWARD
