A Little Help from Jim Beam Means Black Heart Finally Sees Light of Day
Carrick May’s hugely anticipated debut album Black Heart will finally be released at a massive party at Manly’s New Brighton Hotel on Friday February 1st.
The Singer songwriter who has already created a stir by topping the Triple J unearthed charts with two songs before releasing an album or performing a gig has welcomed the support of Jim Beam who, along with the New Brighton Hotel, have decided to throw their support behind the rising star of the music world.
Carrick, who paid for the albums recording, production, packaging and promotion completely out of his own pocket, says he is amazed by the support that has been thrown his way.
“I approached Jim Beam with nothing more to offer than examples of the songs I had recorded. I asked for their help get my music out there, they had a listen and just said ‘sure!’ I was blown away by their support”
Jim Beam, who are widely recognised at the Label Behind Live Music were more than happy to help out this young artist. Kel Constantine, the Sponsorship & Events Manager at Jim Beam was full of praise for Carrick.
“Jim Beam has a long history of supporting live music in Australia. We were impressed not only by Carrick’s music but also his professionalism and passion. Carrick is a great talent and we’re pleased to support him as he follows his dream.”
On top of Jim Beam’s support, the New Brighton Hotel also offered to host the event without any fee for hire of the venue.
The popularity of the Northern Beaches local has grown to cult status thanks mainly to his myspace page and his weekly covers gig at the Cerutis Night Club where, after a long stint at the Narrabeen Sands, he is now the resident musician.
“This is it for me, this is what I live for. I am just so glad that people are actually starting to take notice, and hopefully this album launch will be the start of something big.”
But the former bouncer is not getting ahead of himself just yet despite the tidal wave of support.
“I’m under no illusions I still have a long way to go, I can’t quit my day job just yet, this is going to be a long hard road and I am in it for the long haul.”
‘Jim Beam Presents Carrick May’ will be kicking off at the New Brighton Hotel in Manly from 8pm, with local artist Elisha Keen starting at 9pm, and Carrick May and band starting at 10pm.
The album ‘Black Heart is available from Mall Music or www.myspace.com/carrickmaymusic..
