Coming to a stadium near you. More proof that Sting doesn’t listen to music. Seriously, I was somewhat enraged to learn that The Police would be supported by Fergie, but I let it slide, justifying it with ‘hey, at least there’ll be some eye candy.’ Listening to Fiction Plane, who will be playing the opening slot, is another thing altogether and makes me wonder if I should just hang out at Suncorp Stadium carpark, blaring out The Police Live! Album through the car speakers. That’s right, this band almost force me to be that guy. Think of Muse trying to be The Police (nowhere is this better illustrated than on Two Sisters), and that’s the territory that Fiction Plane claim, but without the talent for hooks and melodies and a slight sense of humour. Instead we have bombastic production, predictable choruses and songs about the evils of drinking. Boo hoo. Just to make myself feel better, I’m going to blame these guys for the poor ticket sales. They may have songs with somewhat predictable choruses but so do The Police. I do love the Police but that's true. I think that their lyrics are chatchy and they can all play their instruments really well - what more could you expect from Sting's son than to be a great singer and bassist? |
