Energetic, but homogenous… A cry of distress resonates throughout this debut release as Perth rockers Sugar Army throw of the shackles of suburban living and create musically what would seem like the exact opposite. A vast array of influences are displayed on the record ranging from fellow Aussie comrades Wolf & Cub and The Vines, while also taking a hint of flavour from international flamboyant post-punkers Beep Beep and Test Icicles. Stand out tracks ...And Now You’re Old Enough and Jigsaw are great examples of the murky, dark, experimental rock which holds the base of Sugar Army’s sound. The collection of songs displayed here makes for a strong and somewhat alarming sound that really can’t go wrong in the Australian indie scene these days. Though maybe the only downfall of the sound they have created is the inability to be diverse in songwriting on this EP in particular; and while the tunes are lacking no amount of energy and originality, it all starts to blend into each other a little too much to be an exceptional listen.
