A well-balanced performer When an artist releases a full-length imbued with a mixture of joy and sorrow, it quickly polarizes opinions. Perhaps this comes down to whether one is a doomed pessimist or an annoying optimist. Regardless, taking ones outlook into account may then give us insight into their own ability to creatively accentuate those defining moments – negative or positive. Relatively, Bridget Pross, the Tasmanian-born young lady with a penchant for smoky yet sultry melody must then be one of the few exceptions to the rule. The songs Pross has written vary from the playful opener Work of Art, to the near anthem drive of Little Sister, to the baring beauty Better Than You. Inevitably, some listeners will make the obvious comparison between Bridget Pross and Missy Higgins. It’s also highly likely that, just as this listener did, many will find Pross is the one with a more masterful handle on her craft. DAVID FANNON
