ISOLA BELLA PRESENTS – ON WATCHING AND NOTICING 7th March – 13th March
The Art Factory 84 Merivale Street South Brisbane
OPENING FRIDAY 7th MARCH 6–9pm
Isola Bella is an internationally acclaimed digital media artist whose career in the creative industries has spanned almost two decades. On Watching and Noticing is Isola’s first show in Brisbane, Australia.
Primarily consisting of photographic works this exhibition sees the artist as voyeur. Isola Bella’s photographs of unattended bedrooms are full of phenomenological suggestiveness, almost like an illustration for Gaston Bachelard’s Poetics of Space. Bella’s work is different, less sentimental, more rigorous, arriving at a broader truth. What Bella shows us is the shape of being without the being in it. Her images emphasise the purely pictorial over philosophy’s traditional role of ‘evidence’. The home is revealed poignantly in Bella’s work as a place of transience.
