Love it or hate it, iconic Hollywood femme fatale Chloe Sevigny has her own sense of eclectic urban style. Controversial roles in art-house films are not all this little lady is famous for – her breakaway fashion spirit has set tongues a-wagging and impressed the fashion world enough to land her a starring role designing her own clothing line for the New York boutique Opening Ceremony.
This is not Chloe’s first foray into the fashion world; at the age of 18 she was discovered by Sassy Magazine’s fashion editor in Brooklyn and was impressed enough by her eccentric style to ask her to intern at the mag. Miss Sevigny even modelled in the magazine for Kim Gordon’s (Sonic Youth) label X-Girl. However, her true passion was acting and she chose the path to become one of the world’s best known indie actresses. Having impressed the world with her Vincent Gallo-fellating skills and vintage beatnik chic, last year Chloe Sevigny was asked by the Opening Ceremony boutique to create a line of clothing that showcased her individual style yet was accessible enough for the average wearer. Pretty floral frocks, high-waisted tight check skirts and pants, bustiers and black mini skirts make up the Chloe Sevigny range. For the New York label launch Chloe threw a rock & roll fashion shindig with reggae punk queens, The Slits performing live and hundreds of hipster socialites in attendance. In little ol’ Brisbane town the revered fashion store Blonde Venus, launched the range to a packed crowd eager to see Chloe’s designs. www.blondevenus.com.au www.openingceremony.us MICHELLE BROWN
