Club 299             Sun Mar 9

As I wander up the stairs to the spacious Club 299 I’m greeted by a small but modest crowd as Panda! Panda! Panda! take the stage. It becomes clear to me in the next ten minutes or so that the sheer unoriginality of this band must be a little embarrassing on a night like tonight – and especially if you’re borrowing style-wise from the band you’re supporting; though admittedly there is potential in there.

Unfortunately, The Daylight Curse, who were to play next up have had to cancel their first appearance ever due to a broken down equipment van.

Enter: HORSE the Band. Now, I will just say this, if there is another band on the planet that can upstage HORSE as far as musicianship and showmanship goes, I will eat my arm or someone else’s for that matter. Their eclectic brand of metalcore is something to be feared and something to behold.

Ploughing through a set of crowd favourites, their enthusiasm and skill never waver, and finishing with a truly impressive Cutsman understandably causes the already ecstatic crowd to go simply insane with pleasure. I now dub HORSE the Band lords of experimental metalcore.

This was quite easily one of the most intense, interesting and unpredictable hardcore shows i've been to; and i've been to a few... Although their CD hints at how unique they are, I don't think anyone expected that level of awesomeness. It actually looked like the band themselves were surprised by the sound they pulled. Kudos to KMW, 299 and Lou for making that happen.

And I think, no actually I know, The Daylight Curse have played around quite a bit. FYI

i though panda panda panda were good, i checked out there myspace and they've only been around for a few months which was surprising by how well they played... yeah they sound a bit like HORSE the band but there isn't much music like that in SE QLD or even Australia, i thought they were good and different from HORSE, they were more melodic and not as heavy. and curse have played heaps, they've been a band for like 6 years or something... get your facts straight... horse were so good :)
