American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson hits the Entertainment Centre tonight with the support of former teen queen Mandy Moore and Jamaican hip hop artist Sean Kingston. Much to my disappointment, the show kicks off earlier than advertised so I unfortunately didn’t catch Mandy Moore – a real shame because I will readily admit that Candy is one of my all time favourite pop songs.

You may know Sean Kingston from Beautiful Girl, that fairly substandard interpretation of Ben E King’s classic Stand By Me. His set is much of the same, except with extra bass.

For the start of the headlining set, the curtains draw back to reveal Kelly Clarkson perched on a set of stairs draped in the red dress from the cover of her most recent album My December, and her band frozen in poses until the strobe lights kick in, and they launch into One Minute. There’s a lot of hits in the first half of the show, including Behind Hazel Eyes and Never Again. A barefoot Clarkson seems a tad lacklustre in her performance, but her vocal range makes up for her poor stage presence. The set closes with Since U Been Gone, which sends the crowd into total karaoke mode.
