Welcome to the first in a series of vintage, second hand clothing store rundowns. Basically where I get to go and do what I love best – vintage clothes shopping! I am sure to get plenty of flack from friends who would prefer I not reveal the secret little gems of places that sell our favourite items, but what the hell, I’ll be trying to have an unbiased approach and just give the cold hard facts, visiting not just the tried and true, but also branching out to new op-shopping pastures. Some will be Kath & Kim and some Breakfast At Tiffany’s I’m sure. Enjoy! PADDINGTON ANTIQUE CENTRE
Location: 167 LaTrobe Tce, Paddington Selection: This place is a veritable goldmine of goodies; I spent over $100 and gained further excess stock for the wardrobe(s). The Antique Centre is comprised mainly of antique furniture and jewellery stalls with a smattering of clothing vendors who have some very reasonable and gorgeous items for sale. Two in particular ruined my wallet. There is a great range of women’s dresses, formal and casual, skirts, tops, sunnies, jewellery and shoes. Plenty of men’s shirts, pants, ties and hats. The retro furniture here is amazing, pricey but not unaffordable! Great kitchenware and home décor also. Average prices: Dresses $20 – $50, skirts and shirts under $20, average price of men’s stuff $20 – $40, accessories under $20. Highlights: The true vintage vibe to the place, with so many things to look at and go ga-ga over. You could bring your mother to this place and both be entertained for a few hours. Lowlights: The stall owners should really remove any old tags with original prices, paying $20 for a skirt that had an $8 Lifeline tag attached hurt a little bit. Vibe: Totally retro. This is a day outing in itself, prepare a few hours for trawling. OP-Shopometer: 8/10 Till next time. NEKO
