Revenge of Nerd Metal

Slickly electronic and craftily extreme, Certified Nerdcore is a calculative spot of metal. Its paranoid sci-fi sonic is thematically innovative, departing from the slash, burn, and pillage themes metal bands use to thunder alongside their blast beats. Oddly tuned hooks take the listener into the spiralling Seconds, with sampling trickery and interchanging riffs making tracks like Intro To Demerit and Fat Ninjaz Revenge memorable. Dead Letter Opener are a highly distracted Brisbane trio, not restricting themselves to one idea (both musically and lyrically). Mick Millard’s scratchy, archfiend-like vocals explore aggression, environmentalism, and police corruption. Drummer Richie Young and guitarist Chris Lait make the rhythm quiver and take the time to let bridges reach their full and often warped extent. On Fat Ninjaz Revenge the electronics peak, but should definitely be compared to the strange, searching electronics and keyboard on Intro To Demerit. This won’t be Dead Letter Opener’s most clever album, but it’s a very decent start.
