Because new pants are nice to have
Those Scandinavians sure have an ear for a pop tune. Cut from the same cloth as Peter, Bjorn and John, Shout Out Louds and I’m From Barcelona are Wolfkin. If you enjoy the aforementioned bands, then you have every reason to enjoy this. It has that same charming self-deprecation – it’s the sort of music only bearded Northern European men can make. It’s sweet, danceable and fun, highly listenable but somewhat inconsistent. The first half of the album is very forgettable, while the second half is quite good. Subversatine might make a good Bond theme, smooth, narcissistic guitar strums and low-key harmonies, cinematic strings overlaid. The title track is by far the best thing here, humorous lyrics and a catchy, memorable rhythm. Island Of Surprise is also closer to the standard of their contemporaries finding the right vocal hooks. This record is a see-saw, whether the good outweighs the bad depends which side you sit on.
