It takes two, punk crazies
The two Bens from Oxford come together for their second full-length release to form the hurried frenzy that is The Flight Of The Raven. Though not seeming to admire the music scene in their homeland they ventured overseas to record this album in the mighty US of A in grunge capital Seattle. The pedal-to-the-metal garage-punk style is introduced in With Friends Like These before they veer towards the more American sound of the genre, taking off the raw edge and seeming less visceral than expected. That is until they serve dollops of unrefined punk viscosity to you with A Dose Of Something, and then immediately back at you with Reeper – essentially, this album perpetually accelerates. It isn’t original, and neither is it attempting to be. It is homage to the greats, to Black Flag, Fugazi, Fu Manchu, Minor Threat, The Melvins, Kyuss, S.O.A. and even AC/DC. So don’t look for something new here, look for some common appreciation, they’re just agreeing with your taste by using music and not words.
