National living treasures? Well I’m not sure yet. Fronted by the jazz bassist Simon Starr, and backed up by a formidable team of musicians and instruments, I hope to be teetering on aural greatness as the hi-fi gulps down the album. The cover is probably the coarsest thing on the whole package, and is actually contrary to the well planned, organised music that has had any stray frayed edges neurotically ironed out. The robust pop is confirmed by warm and honest guitar rhythms reminiscent of The Beach Boys without the whole dark, acid-age influence. This robust sound all reciprocates to classic summer radio music and I’m left in a void wondering why this album wasn’t released six months ago in the start of spring. It is easy to parallel with Jack Johnson and the like, but it has more musical capacity squeezed into the average track. These session musicians have made a nice tidy album that will suit lazy ears.
