Simple, mellow folk-pop
The opening track of this local release has a cute little guitar and keyboard pairing, which sounds old and rustic, and sets the scene for the EP. Ichabod’s Crane sounds like she’s singing in a mellow haze, whilst also giving you a sense of deja vu, due to the inescapable similarity in sound to many other female singer-songwriters who don’t disguise their Australian accents. The poetic lyrics would have to be the best thing on this album, which in itself is laid back and slow. The short and simple songs revolve around her voice and an acoustic guitar, with some minor input by harmonica and piano. The best track here is probably Secret Agent Bones, which is very stripped back, and quietly winds the EP to a close. It’s not going to tickle everyone’s fancy, but if you like to chill out to an acoustic guitar-toting female every once in a while, you might be interested.
