1. All We Hear Is…: Popbitch have diversified and now have an internet radio site, Radio Popbitch. They’re aimed at “adults who love pop music but hate radio DJs”, with playlists chosen by us, the listeners. Is it better than Pandora? I don’t know yet. You can try it at www.radiopopbitch.com
2. Keeping The ‘I’ In ARI: Did you know there’s a Brisbane Artist Run Initiatives festival at the end of August? It happens from August 28 – 31 at Juggler’s Artspace, 103 Brunswick St. The festival will feature exhibitions, panels and classes… I’m having trouble loading the website but try it later this week, or head to the Juggler’s website for more info: www.barifest.com or www.jugglers.org.au. 3. Got Me A Movie: the latest program at the Cinematheque features Catalan filmmaker Pere Portabella, who made a series of documentaries about Joan Miro and a slew of atmospheric horror/thriller pieces. They’re showing a complete retrospective which also includes Bunuel’s Andalusian Dog – and they’re free! Head to the GoMA or Cinematheque websites for a full program.
4. Shark-Jumping Contines: First Dave Navarro, now Chris Cornell… have you heard the shit he’s put together with Timbaland? It’s horrible. Head to YouTube and search for ‘Long Gone’ if you’d like all your nineties memories to come crashing down in a vapid pool of high production values and low standards.
