Real classy

The tasteful cover art of this release displays a naked blue woman with red eyes, presumably meant to be a mega hot demon babe. It works nicely as a prelude to the subtle, heart wrenching balladry found within. Just kidding. It’s four dudes churning out rock songs, and no balladry, or indeed subtlety, is to be found anywhere. The five songs here are fairly short, and prototypically rock in nature, with a couple of guitar solos thrown in here and there, to really give the listener their money’s worth. On the plus side, it’s catchy and accessible. On the negative side, it has somewhat clichéd lyrics about evil women messing with the narrator’s head (most noticeably on Black Days), a topic which has been explored numerous times before; and a vocal style that can only be described as nasal. But, I’m sure a few copies will be bought for the colourful naked imagery alone.

I’d like to express extreme disappointment at the review on this CD. Your opinions on everything about this band are completely unfounded & full of over-the-top sarcasm. Of course, it is your opinion, and it is only that of one person & you are paid to be a critic. This band has a large & loyal fan-base & in their time playing on the live scene, they have NEVER had one bad comment. NOT ONE. They’ve had nothing but positive feedback & great reviews. And whilst the boys happily accept constructive criticism, the smart-ass digs at them in this review was way beyond uncalled for. However, I believe that had you done your research for example – come to a live show, met the boys in person, etc, your opinion would be very different to the one you have now. Especially seeing as SPEEDRACER are a Hard Rock band – and how many Hard Rock Bands release ballads these days? This is rock music, not pop music sweetheart!!! It is difficult to see how you come to form your assumptions (and that is what they are, purely assumptions) – considering you have no basis for forming those views, as this is the opinion of someone who has just listened to the CD & looked at the CD cover, and

a) Has never met the boys in person.
b) Has never been to a live show, so cannot comment on the music itself or the popularity of the band.
c) Does not know anything at all about the band, what the lyrics mean or what the artwork interprets. You are clearly wrong on all counts, trust me!!!

A good journalist does their research first. My advice to you would be research bands you are reviewing in future. Come out to one of the boys shows – I guarantee you will be surprised at their popularity and shocked at the quality of their music. I know the boys personally & the number of EP’s that have actually been sold speaks for itself. And just to set the record straight - the CD’s have been sold because people love the music, not because the “artwork” attracted them to buy it!!!
